Words of Jesus
Purpose
“I shall give you what no eye has seen and what no ear has heard and what no hand has touched and what never arose in the heart of man.”
“Verily I have come to send peace upon earth, but when I speak, behold a sword follows. I have come to unite, but behold, a son shall be at variance with his father, and a daughter with her mother, and a daughter-in-law with her mother-in-law. And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household. For the unjust cannot mate with them that are just.”
“For this end I have come into the world, that I may put away all blood offerings and the eating of the flesh of the beasts and the birds that are slain by men.”
“I will destroy this construction, and no one will be able to rebuild it again.”
World
“I stood in the midst of the world, and incarnate I appeared to them. I found them all drunk, I found none among them athirst. And my soul was grieved for the sons of men, for they are blind in their hearts and do not see that empty they have come into the world and that empty they are destined to come forth again from the world. However, now they are drunk - when they have shaken off their wine, then shall they rethink.”
“This heaven will pass away, and the one above it will pass away. The dead are not alive, and the living will not die. In the days when you consumed death, you made death alive. When you come to dwell in the light, what will you do? On the day when you were one, you became two. But when you become two, what will you do ?”
“You have become like the Jews, for they like the tree and hate its fruit and like the fruit and hate the tree!”
“What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his soul?”
“He who has come to know the world has found a corpse, and he who has found a corpse, the world is not worthy of him.”
“I have cast fire upon the world, and see, I watch over it until it blazes up.”
Evil
“He who blasphemes against the Father will be forgiven, and he who blasphemes against the Son will be forgiven, but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven either on earth or in heaven.”
“Damn the flesh that depends on the soul; damn the soul that depends on the flesh.”
“Woe unto the strong who misuse their strength; woe unto the hunters for they shall become the hunted.”
“Why hunt ye these creatures of God, which are more noble than you? By the cruelties of many generations they were made the enemies of man who should have been his friends.”
“Whoso eats the flesh of slain beasts, eats the body of death.”
“Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me. … Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these [my brothers], you did not do for me.”
Kingdom
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
“My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.”
“Whoever is near me is near the fire, and whoever who is far from me is far from the Kingdom.”
“They who partake of benefits with are gotten by wronging one of God’s creatures, cannot be righteous: nor can they touch holy things, or teach the mysteries of the Kingdom, whose hands are stained with blood, or whose mouths are defiled with flesh.”
“When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one, so that the male will not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in the place of a likeness; then will you enter the Kingdom.”
“Among those born of women, from Adam until John the Baptist, there is none greater than John the Baptist that his eyes should not be lowered before him. Yet I have said, that if one of you becomes like a child he will know the Kingdom and be higher than John.”
“Except you be converted, and become as little children, you shall not enter into the Kingdom.”
Truth
“Many are around the water-spring but nobody is in the well.”
“The One Truth has many sides, and one sees one side only, another sees another, and some see more than others, according as it is given to them. Behold this crystal, how the one light is manifest in twelve faces, yea four times twelve, and each face reflects one ray of light, and one regards one face, and another another, but it is one crystal and one light that shines in all.”
“Let him who seeks not cease to seek until he finds: when he finds, he will become troubled. When he is troubled, he will wonder, and he will reign over the All.”
“He who seeks will find, and he who knocks will be let in.”
“Know what is in front of your face, and what is hidden from you will be disclosed to you. For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. And there is nothing buried that will not be raised.”
“A person old in days will not hesitate to ask a child of seven days about the Place of Life, and he will live! For many who are first will become last, and they will become one and the same.”
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits.”
“After my departure there will arise the ignorant and the crafty, and many things will they ascribe to me that I never spake, and many things which I did speak will they withhold, but the day will come when the clouds shall be rolled away, and the Sun of Righteousness shall shine forth with healing in his wings.”
Light
“I am the light that illuminates all things. I am all: from me all came forth, and to me all is attained. Split a piece of wood; I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there.”
“If they say to You, ‘Where did You come from?’, say to them: ‘We came from the light, the place where the light came into being of itself, established itself and revealed itself in their image.’”
“There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, there is darkness.”
“Be faithful to the light you have, till a higher light is given to you. Seek more light, and you shall have abundantly; rest not, till you find.”
“Preach from your roof-tops that which You will hear in your ear. For no one lights a lamp and puts it under a bushel, nor does he put it in a hidden place, but rather he sets it on a lamp-stand so that all who come in and go out will see its light.”
“The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.”
“If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.”
Introspection
“If those who lead you say to you: ‘See, the Kingdom is in heaven!’, then the birds of the sky will precede you. If they say to you, ‘It is in the sea!’, then the fish will precede you. But the Kingdom is inside you and outside you. When you know yourselves, then you will be known, and you will know that you are the children of the Living Father. But if you do not know yourselves, then you dwell in poverty ; then you are that poverty.”
“He who believes to know the All but not himself falls completely short.”
“You see the mote in your brother’s eye, but you do not see the beam in your own eye. When you cast out the beam of your own eye, then you will see clearly enough to cast out the mote from your brother’s eye.”
Righteousness
“It is impossible for a man to mount two horses nor draw two bows. And it is impossible for a servant to serve two masters; otherwise, he will honor the one and insult the other. No man drinks old wine and desires at the same instant to drink new wine. And new wine is not put into old wineskins, lest they should burst; nor is old wine put into a new wineskin, lest it should spoil it.”
“If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; better to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; better to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.”
“If you have money, do not lend it at interest, but give it to someone from whom you will not get it back.”
“Be not led away by the beauty of woman, yea, all flesh is grass and the flower of the field; the grass withers and the flower fades away, but the Word of the Eternal endures forever. My work is to teach and heal the children of men, and he that is born of God keeps his seed within him.”
“God gives the grains and the fruits of the earth for food: and for righteous man truly there is no other lawful sustenance for the body.”
“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Heavenly Father. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.”
“Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
“When two make peace with each other in this one house, they will say to the mountain, ‘Move!’ and it will move.”
Disciples
“You are my disciples if you have love to one another and show mercy and love to all the creatures of God, especially to those that are weak and oppressed and suffer wrong. For the whole earth is filled with dark places of cruelty, and with pain and sorrow, by the selfishness and ignorance of man.”
“If any man come to me, and hate not his father and mother, and wife and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.”
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
Promise
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven.”
“In the world you will have trouble, but take courage, for I have conquered the world.”
“Yes, I am with you always, until the very end of time.”
